Scripps Coastal Reserve

On this visit to the reserve we will deploy 2 acoustic receiver tripods (these are modified camera tripods less than 1 m in diameter and less than 1 me in height that sit on the seafloor) and one acoustic transmitter tripod (the same footprint as the receiver tripods) in the waters north and west of the SIO pier on the 10 m to 30 m isobaths. The receive tripods include anchors. The transmitter will be within 200 m of the end of the SIO pier with a cable running along the seafloor back to the pier. The experiment dates are from Nov.6th through Nov.10th. The systems will be deployed using divers and recovered with a small boat. The source system will transmit in the frequency band 40-50 kHz at a source level not to exceed 160 dB re 1 microPascal at 1 meter. The experiments will include approximately 4-6 hours of acoustic source tows from a small boat in the same regions with identical source transmission parameters. All research materials will be recovered and removed from the marine reserve at the the of the experiment.
