Scripps Coastal Reserve

The BILD 4: Intro to Biology Lab instructor, instructional assistants, and students will visit the Scripps Coastal Reserve. Under supervision of the instructor, instructional assistants will identify 2-4 native and invasive pllants, by observations, along the Knoll Trail. We will collect small soil samples (approximately 100 g each) from the ground surface.. Soil samples are expected to contain microbial species, which will be removed from the Reserve. Sections of 24-32 students will be led by the instructor and teaching assistants along the Knoll Trail and observe the different plant species under which the soil samples were obtained. No manipulations of the environment or species are planned, and no species are expected to be introduced beyond general human traffic.
