Boyd Deep Canyon Desert Research Center

We will do line transects for floristic analysis in the area around the campground and at areas at higher elevation on the hillside. We will also observe and identify as many plants as we can during our stay. As part of a continuing investigation into the microbiome of Agave deserti with Stephen Gross, small leaf and root samples will be taken of three plants located on the hillside above the campground (plant site was identified last year). Only three roots will be taken from each plant, and small leaf portions, all of which will be cut carefully with razor blades. Disturbance to the soil around the plants will be minimal, and soil will be replaced.
