During the week of 15-19 November 2010, the San Diego Natural History Museum would like to conduct surveys as described in the "Centennial Resurvey of the San Jacinto Mountains" Project Description at Pinyon Flat. The specific area of Pinyon Flat targeted for these surveys was scouted with Mark Fisher on 24 September. Survey methods will include point-counts of birds, mist-netting of birds and bats, tape-playback surveys for owls, live-trapping of small mammals, pitfall-cup-trapping of incidental small animals, visual surveys for herps, motion-detection photography of large mammals, and Anabat recordings of bats. Limited amounts of animals will be collected and preserved as museum specimens, as permitted under state and federal collecting permits (maximum three specimens per species for non-sensitive species). The list of participants may change, so we will update that the week before the trip if needed.
