I’m looking for places to propose research grants to test Mars life-detection instruments and a rover with a 1m drill. I’m currently trying to figure out whether there are areas with frost polygons near the Barcroft station, either in the flat area between the station and the observatory, or else along the route to the summit (it looks like there is a flat area at 3950m on the right, just where the summit road bears left? Ideally I’d drill with a ½” handheld drill down 1-2m to try to find the depth to permafrost. But I understand that I may need a permit to do that. If that’s not possible, I would still be interested in assessing the terrain, measuring the diameter of any polygons, and checking out the Barcroft station facilities in support of my research proposals.
