I and a field assistant will be studying a vocal contact between Spotted Towhees (Pipilo maculatus) that occurs in the Owens Valley near Bishop. We will be performing short playback experiments on individual birds to determine if they prefer/recognize song types of their own dialects. This work only involves a speaker and a notepad and is minimally invasive to the birds.
