White Mountain Research Center

The visit is part of the Dartmouth College Department of Earth Sciences' off-campus program known as "the Stretch". During this program, instructors and students traverse the American west and learn about geology at different sites. During our stay at the White Mountains Research Center, we will focus on learning about the formation of the Sierra Nevada mountains, basin and range rifting and associated volcanism, and Quaternary geology. Students will conduct short day-long projects that involve investigating rocks and structures and mapping of glacial geology.
