My name is Kevin Killion I am the Operations Team Co-Chair for the California Student Sustainability Coalition. This July we are hosting a Summer Leadership Retreat for our Statewide student leaders to plan our collective actions for the following semester. It is our hopes that we may rent your facilities for an available weekend (Thursday-Sunday) this Summer 2013, About Leadership Retreats: Our organization of dedicated student leaders and alumni work regularly to accomplish our many goals of propelling the sustainability movement forward. We communicate statewide and nationally to strengthen our organization. This is primarily done online (video conference, email, social media, google drive) or over our weekly conference calls. The leadership retreat allows our organizing body of students to interact on an all too important face to face level. The opportunity to meet all together for four days allows us to conduct leadership and campaign organizing training for our student leaders and Operations Team elections for the next cycle (August-January/January-August). Our board meets to discuss finance, partnerships and mission development, and our new or returning council reps are trained by the council co-chairs. The life of student organizing involves frequent turnover and regular meetings such as the leadership retreat enable our organization to thrive. About the CSSC: The CSSC has evolved to encompass college campuses from CCC, CSU, UC and private educational systems. Our mission is to unite and empower Californias community of higher education to collaboratively and nonviolently transform ourselves and our institutions based on our inherent social, economic, and ecological responsibilities. As a maturing organization, with chapters from Humboldt to San Diego, the CSSC is moving towards a holistic approach to sustainability, as we recognise that genuine sustainability requires equal parts Social, Economic and Environmental justice.
