Sagehen Creek Field Station

Mountainous regions are a critical link in California?s water supply chain and they often support unique ecosystems. Water resources in these regions are likely to be impacted by a changing climate, however the extent of the impact of a changing climate on groundwater resources, specifically mineral springs, in the western Sierra Nevada remains unclear. The proposed study seeks to understand the origin and geochemical evolution of water in these mineral springs. Measurements of spring geochemistry, as well of the water?s isotopic composition and residence time, will provide new insight into the flow system of the mineral springs and its susceptibility to disturbances.
