Sagehen Creek Field Station

The purpose of this program is to teach and motivate high school students about careers in the wildlife sciences. Hopefully, participants will ultimately enroll into a university and choose a wildlife major. During the program, students will actively engage in numerous field research projects involving live trapping of small mammals (flying squirrels and chipmunks), the survey and collection of insects and aquatic invertebrates, botanical survey methodologies, and the study of ornithology and herpetology. Daytime fieldwork is supplemented with nocturnal activities w/ mammals, insects and owls. Students also engage in a field project of their own choosing with a small team of peers.
