Sagehen Creek Field Station

We wish to collect preliminary data on soil properties in the Sagehen basin in areas that are scheduled for controlled burn through the SPLAT program. Preliminary data collection will include in situ measurements of physical and chemical soil properites. Soil samples will also be collected for laboratory analysis of soil additional physical and chemical properties. Soil samples will be extracted using a 3 inch diameter soil core with a hand auger. These data will provide a background level of knowledge on the existing physical and chemical conditions of the soils for future comparison with "disturbed" (fire) areas.
