In summary, my proposal’s primary objective is to capture human traces alongside these wonderful sceneries to bring awareness to man's impact on nature's creation. The end result of my research and travels will be an exhibition that showcases this theme and hopefully affect people’s perception of “Leave No Trace.” The concept of “Leave No Trace” seems to be the most appropriate means for protecting our natural environment. The process of taking a picture within this framework is a work of perfecting the balance of the positions and distances of objects within the frame. The process of photographing “negative” human traces against the backdrop of nature also requires finding a balance in composition. I think the process is similar to meditation and I hope the viewers experience the same. The second objective of the current project is less philosophical but more practical, as it is to offer the public an opportunity to observe and enjoy the beauty of America’s national parks as seen through the camera lens, hopefully portraying the scenery as close as possible to actually being there. The visceral enjoyment of being transported to a scenery via photography is crucial to the project, as without this there can be no empathy felt toward the issue of human beings leaving traces in nature. At this point, it is important to point out that the exhibition being planned as part of this project is much less intended to be accusatory, activist, nor an hot-button issue coverage type but much closer to traditional and straightforward landscape photography. The official title of the photo exhibition planned as part of the current project will be Leave No Trace 2021. America's national parks are very peculiar to me in that they hold great symbolic meaning in representing the most beautiful natural environments in the world but they are also among the best protected in the world by way of excellent legislation in a country that is, ironically, the world's most representative of both capitalist consumption as well as individual free will. No other place in the world would offer such an interesting and intricate history and relationship between human beings and nature, not to mention the abundance of locations to meditate upon those issues.
