Kenneth S. Norris Rancho Marino Reserve

I am conducting rocky intertidal ecological research on the sea palm, Postelsia palmaeformis. My research concerns commercial collection practices and its effects on Postelsia and its population dynamics. My experiment reproduces collection methods which allows me to observe the ability of local populations to recover. In addition to this field work, I collect fronds to take to the lab and monitor spores that are produced. In this way I may determine the effects of commercial collection on the local populations. My research takes place near the Rancho, though not in it, and I require housing.
