Sedgwick Reserve

The American Indian Scholars Program would like to visit Sedgwick and especially the observatory in order to hold an event about astronomy for our students. If possible, we would like to have a brief tour or a hike to show them around the land. We plan to serve dinner, possibly a barbecue and at night we would like to offer hot chocolate and or other warm drinks and desserts. The participant group will be composed of mostly American Indian students and parents/guardians. I expect several UCSB staff/faculty to attend as well as several other community members. UCSB student staff that serve as mentors to the participants will also be on hand. Others who have not been contacted yet or confirmed may be the Santa Barbara Astronomical Unit and two community members that are funded through the National Science Foundation that study archeo-astronomy.
