The main purpose of this research is to evaluate whether niche or fitness differences between invasive and native species determines the coexistence of both species groups in annual species communities of Mediterranean-type ecosystems. Moreover, we also explore how this possible coexistence-competence patterns vary between different phenological communities The main contribution is to the research field of invasion ecology will be to experimentally show for the first time how coexistence niche theory can be a new framework to model why in some habitats invasive species can outcompete natives while other times both species coexist or natives are resistant to invasion.
