Sedgwick Reserve

I am studying the evolutionary history of the side-blotched lizard Uta stansburiana. This lizard is especially interesting because within just this species there are 3 different types of males, each with a different strategy for acquiring mates. There are also 2 different types of females, which differ in how many eggs they lay and what quality those eggs are. This sort of diversity within a species has not been observed before. My project is to determine how all these mating strategies evolved. To do this I plan on collecting side-blotched lizards across their range and I will observe whether each population has all of these mating strategies. I will also use genetic sequence from the lizards to reconstruct their geneological/evolutionary history.
