Playback of synthetic cricket song to attract parasitoid flies (Genus Ormia, Tachinidae). Synthetic song allows systematic variation of stimulus presentation to assess plasticity and preferences of the parasitoid flies which locate their cricket hosts by song. Playback will be in weedy old field areas as well as oak savanna. No impacts to vegetation or animal populations with the exceptions of crickets (Gryllus) and flies (Ormia) are anticipated. Crickets and flies will be collected as necessary for further laboratory work. No species/genotypes will be introduced; there will be no long term impacts to the reserve ecosystem itself or its potential use by other researchers. Playback experiments are of necessity during the evening/nighttime hours. Thus the ability to camp within the reserve will be very helpful on certain occasions.
