Fort Ord Natural Reserve

We plan on continuing our Arthropod research through the use of pitfall traps, and the beat/sweep method outlined in previous reservations. Along with our arthropod surveys, we also plan on taking bird, tree, and vegetation surveys of the same area. The only samples taken would be the arthropod samples. Our other three surveys will be purely observational. The Avian surveys will consist of taking 20 minutes of bird counts of two 1000 m^2 areas. Our vegetation surveys will consist of three 15m point intercept surveys on the same Coast Live Oak trees used in the arthropod surveys. Our final survey on tree health will consist of looking at leaf health (color and size), small twig dieback(new growth), and canopy cover.
