Stunt Ranch Santa Monica Mountains Reserve

We are going to measure gas exchange and midday plant water potential for a chaparral plant community at Stunt Ranch Reserve. The plant community is composed of species with different adaptive strategies in response to water stress. Our study species includes shrubs with evergreen, sclerophyllous leaves, as well as species with soft-leaved, drought-deciduous leaves. The study species include woody evergreens (Adenostoma fasciculatum, Quercus berberidifolia; Q. agrifolia; Heteromeles arbutifolia; Ceanothus spinosus; Rhamnus ilicifolia and Arctostaphylos glandulosa), woody deciduous shrubs (Fraxinus velutina var. coriacea; Malacothamnus fasciculatus and Ribes speciosum), and drought deciduous shrubs (Salvia leucophylla; S.spathacea; Venegasia carpesioides and Eriogonum crocatum)
