The Theodore Payne Foundation?s (TPF) mission is "To promote and restore California's landscapes and habitats; to propagate and make available California native plants and wildflowers; To educate and acquire knowledge about California flora and natural history." This is clearly in accordance with that of the UCNRS on many levels. In order to fulfill our mission, we thoroughly seek out new species and cultivars of CA native flora from our surrounding wild lands and nurseries from across CA. Provenance is important to us: the more we can source plants from local ecosystems the better we can assure our customers that they will perform well. Stunt Ranch would provide an ideal location to gather genetic material for this very reason. Objectives during our visit would: 1) To gather plant material (e.g. cuttings, divisions, and seeds) with as little disturbance as possible to the individual plant and 2) To scout for plants which may not be at an ideal phase for acquiring plant material and would be more suitable for propagation at a later time. The amount of plant material to create adequate parent stock material for our needs is very minimal and would be carried out with absolutely no disturbance to ongoing experiments that may be going on during the time of our visit.
