Stunt Ranch Santa Monica Mountains Reserve

We will conduct a study of rates of nest predation for songbirds living on edge and interior shrub habitats. On Feb. 16 we will set out approximately 100 artificial wicker nests containing one 1 quail egg and 2 clay eggs. Half of these nests will be on edges of clearings and and the other half will be 25 meters into a shrub interior. We will return Feb. 18 (8-12) and again Feb. 23 to record missing eggs and identify any marks left on artificial eggs. We will not be working directly with any animals, and we anticipate no impact on local wildlife.
