Hastings Natural History Reservation

The purpose of the trip is to introduce the students to methods commonly employed in behavioral research. To that end, we will live trap small mammals along Big Creek to demonstrate trapping and handling methods and to demonstrate common marking methods such as PIT tagging, ear tagging, and use of fluorescent dye to track nocturnal animals. Trapping can also be conducted along lower Robertson Creek as needed to coordinate with ongoing studies of Peromyscus at Hastings. If possible, I will also arrange to have on site researchers (e.g., Eric Walters) with bird banding permits to demonstrate mist netting to the class.
