This is a continuation of project 9224. We collected 180 Osmia lignaria nests from 18 nest blocks with 50 holes each in 2006. we will be using those bees this spring to study emergence patterns from this particular phenotype which have been wintered under various temperature regimes. We will also be crossing a few of the females in greenhouse conditions with a few males from the intermountain area to check viability and see what phenotype is expressed by the offspring. Any extras will be returned on this trip. We are hoping to do do a more comprehensive study (emergence timing) next spring with larger populations released in almonds in the Central valley of California. So we are again hoping to put out 20 nest blocks -10 each in two sites, one along Big creek and the other along Robertson Creek. This site is a good distance from the site of the day before (Placerville) and the following day (Pasadena), so would appreciate being able to spend the night in whichever building is easiest for the staff. If that is not possible because of this late date, we can easily manage otherwise.
