Angelo Coast Range Reserve

Amphibian populations worldwide have been declining at an alarming rate in the last two decades. A fungal pathogen,Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis, causing the disease chytridiomycosis, has been found in association with mass die-offs of frogs in Australia, Central America and in California. We will use a non-invasive technique to test the infection status of amphibian species that occur within the Heath and Marjorie Angelo Coase Range Reserve. Animals will be captured by hand or net, measured, swabbed and released at site of capture. Swabs will be analyzed using quantitative PCR at our lab at UC Berkeley.
