Angelo Coast Range Reserve

An assistant and I will conduct low-impact field surveying of stream width and length in the Elder Creek watershed. We will systematically walk along and measure as many streams as possible working from headwater catchments down to higher order watersheds. Streams are defined as flowing water within a channel. One person will take width measurements at an equal interval of ~5 m (7 paces) along streams with a tape measure or a laser range finder (for wide streams), and the other worker will record the measurements. We will also carry a continuous tracking precision GPS to map stream location. This methodology has already been successfully tested in a small basin near Durham, NC.
