Your application describes your activities on the reserve as follows. If this description does not include the activities you will be undertaking please update your application. We propose to collect the Scaptomyza species via sweep netting near streams and mustard plants - no traps will be set since this group is not attracted to lures. We hope to collect as many as 10 individuals of each species known from California (S. adusta, S. apicata, S. bipunctipennis, S. flava, S. hsui, S. maculifera, S. montana, S. nigrita, S. pallida, S. paradusta). This small of a number will have no effect on their population. We would also like to take 2-3 leaves from up to 20 Cardamine cordifolia per collection site, and rhizome material or seeds from ~6-8 C. cordifolia per site. Only 2-3 leaves would need to be collected from other Cardamine species (C. angulata, C. bellidifolia, C. breweri, C. californica, C. hirsute, C. nuttallii, C. occidentalis, C. oligosperma, C. pachystigma, C. pensylvanica). Because perennial Cardamine species often form dense stands of clonal individuals connected through rhizomes, rhizome sampling can be conducted without removing entire plants, and thus does not require lethal sampling. We would like to stay within the Reserve while collecting.
