Angelo Coast Range Reserve

We will bring a group of 15 students from Helms Middle School (accompanied by one or two classroom teachers) for a three day visit during which our two grad student fellows will introduce the students to the habitats and organisms of the Angelo Reserve and demonstrate various techniques for the study of ecology and natural history. Activities will include insect collecting (sweep nets, coverboards, blacklighting for night flying insects), study of plant identification and adaptation (which may include a small amount of collecting and pressing of plant specimens), sampling and observing aquatic arthropods, small mammal trapping, orientation and natural history hikes. All activities will be low impact and care will be taken to avoid disturbing organisms and ongoing research.
