Angelo Coast Range Reserve

As per our school's curriculum, the students have been studying (and will continue to study) about plants in 2 botany blocks. This field trip will be a cumulative experience for the students to become actual botanist in the field. They will see and examine experientially the various plants that we have studied. Thus far, we have studied the characteristics of algae, moss, fungus, and ferns. In the Spring, before this trip, we will complete another block covering conifers, deciduous plants, shrubs, flowers, and grasses. The study of these plants are outlined in our Waldorf curriculum, which is in alignment with the California State Standards. During this trip, the students will complete a botany journal. In this journal, they are expected to sketch, label, and reflect the relationships of the plants they observe and the habitat in which they are found. This will be a great opportunity to utilize their critical thinking skills developed through their study of plant life and observe it in the real world.
