Sampling of fish will be conducted on Elder Creek, 100m above and 100m below the USGS gaging station. Habitat typing will be conducted in order to determine habitat units. Individual units will be marked with flagging (to be removed at the end of the study). Every third pool, run and riffle will be sampled for juvenile steelhead. Nets will be placed at the top and bottom of each unit and depletion electrofishing will be conducted in each sampled unit (this is necessary in order to calculate a steelhead density for the creek). Fish will be anesthetized with Alka-Seltzer, weighed and measured and released back into the habitat unit they were removed from once the electrofishing has been completed in that unit. 100 fish must be sampled in order to calculate an average relative weight for the system. If 100 steelhead are not obtained using the sub-sampled units, units that were not originally sampled will be e-fished until the 100 fish are captured.
