We will bring 20-24 high school students, 1/2 from Natomas Charter School and 1/2 from visiting schools in Costa Rica to the field station for a weekend (Friday afternoon through Sunday evening) with 5-6 supervising adults. At the station, students will build relationships with each other, share common concerns and interests around protecting and managing the environment and environmental science research. Students will participate in activities to promote an understanding of stewardship, the complexity of systems in the environment, and specific concerns of Quail Ridge. Students will participate in herpetological monitoring currently going on at the station as any other research that they could observe/assist in. It would be great if they could meet with any of the researchers doing work at the station. (virtually or in person). The goal is to inspire our student to be lifelong advocates for the planet, and understand that our planet is a common thread connecting people and cultures throughout the world. Students will be practicing for an Arts Performace to be held the following weekend to showcase the environmental concerns, cultural connections, and commitment. Students will stay in tent cabins, an adult will coordinate all food and meals and students will assist in food prep, clean up etc. Our Science teachers (Erica Cornwell and Brian Ellis) will lead science activities and Jeff Pollard will lead discussions. Karen will hold rehearsals for music, drama and dance performances.
