Stebbins Cold Canyon Reserve

I seek permission to evaluate habitat suitability, abundance, and individual health from terrestrial/aquatic amphibians and reptiles throughout the state in fire-affected and unaffected areas. The 2020 fire events present a natural experiment opportunity to evaluate the synergy of fires and infectious disease on these animals. These new data, combined with previously collected data from fall 2018/spring 2019 at these sites (Buttimer, Hernández-Gómez, & Rosenblum, in prep), would allow us to perform a direct comparison of salamander populations pre- and post-fire seasons. I hope to at first, study areas in the Bay Area (2021 - concentrating on terrestrial salamanders) and beyond as new wildfires occur.
