Landels-Hill Big Creek Reserve

Spotted Owl habitat has been drastically affected throughout the state of California due to drought, insects, diseases, wildlifires, and sudden-oak syndrome. This project attempts to assess the effects of sudden-oak syndrome on Spotted Owl habitat within the Monterey ranger district of the Los Padres National Forest. All Historically occupied sites will be surveyed along with a comparable amount of those areas that are affected and unaffected by sudden-oak syndrome. The majority of these surveys will be conducted at night using a call-response survey method. Any responses will then be followed by a daytime follow-up visit to determine pair status and possibly nesting status.
