Landels-Hill Big Creek Reserve

I am one of the faculty involved in our NSF-sponsored "Southern California Environmental Research Program" for undergraduates at CSU Fullerton. Our students have excellent training and ongoing research projects related to various environmental disciplines. We will be attending the Western Society of Naturalists meetings in Seaside before our visit and this visit will correspond to our campus's week-long Fall Break. We would like to visit Big Creek to explore the terrestrial and aquatic habitats of the Reserve to compare it with comparable southern California habitats. I have led similar trips in past years with great success, both in my present faculty position at CSUF (1994-present), and also as a Visiting Assistant Professor or Teaching Assistant while at UCSC (1978-1984). I have also visited Big Creek on a number of occasions related to my research on the evolution of marine molluscs known as chitons (1978-present). We do not anticipate any collections of specimens at this time. We expect to minimize disturbance in all our observational activities. We do not expect to capture any vertebrate species, even for observational purposes.
