Landels-Hill Big Creek Reserve

Students will be visiting field sites on the way to Big Creek Saturday morning, and examining drift algae at the Creek mouth that afternoon. We will camp Saturday night and visit two more sites south of Big Creek during the morning tide before heading back to UCSC. The goals of the trip are to (1) introduce students to how variable algal communities can be, and discuss how this relates to variation in abiotic conditions across sites (e.g. aspect, wave exposure, etc.), and (2) practice the keying and indentification skills developed in class.
