Landels-Hill Big Creek Reserve

I plan to collect seeds and tissue for DNA extraction from 30 individual Mimulus guttatus (CommonYellow Monkey Flower) plants at the Big Creek Reserve. I will also collect 20 pollinators of Mimulus guttatus. These collections will be used as part of a greater collection of Mimulus guttatus stretching from Big Sur, California to Sitka, Alaska. The overall goal of this project will be to understand the genetic architecture of adaptation of Mimulus guttatus populations to coastal ecosystems. Further, I plan to examine whether this adaptation to coastal ecosystems is involved in the process of speciation.
