Landels-Hill Big Creek Reserve

Our class would like to collect terrestrial and aquatic arthropods for the purpose of identification and museum preservation. Collections will be catalogued, reported in the digital Essig Museum Database, and preserved for classroom or museum use. Areas of activity will include: hiking designated trails, near-trail surveys, and creek surveys near Redwood Camp, Mining Ridge Trail, and along South Access Rd. Collection techniques will include leaf-litter sampling, pitfall sampling, understory sweep-netting, log/rock-turning, bark removal, spotlighting, blacklighting, and aerial collecting. These techniques cause minimal, short-term impacts on vegetation, leaf-litter habitat, and arthropod populations.
