Landels-Hill Big Creek Reserve

The purpose of the field trip to Big Creek Reserve is to familiarize and train students in different collecting methods for spiders and beetles. We will be using various passive collecting methods that have minimal impact on the habitat, such as flight interception (malaise) traps, pitfall traps and yellow pan traps. We wil also collect by sweeping and beating vegetation, by sifting leaf litter as well as by hand. We are interested in collecting at a variety of habitats at the reserve.
