I am completing a manuscript, preparation for scheduled seminars, and preparation for BIOL 317 Field Marine Biology course material, focusing on the under-appreciated contributions that marine ecologist, Ed Ricketts, had for comparing and contrasting biogeographic patterns of the northern temperate and Panamic marine biogeographic provinces of western North America. He is much better known for his contributions in the field of ecology. This will be my second visit for this purpose and I have found it to be extremely helpful to work in the setting of the natural reserve at Big Creek with students and others who can help me formulate themes for this historical study. The low tides are not favorable for intertidal work but we also expect to explore the natural history of the terrestrial biomes at the reserve.
