Landels-Hill Big Creek Reserve

The proposed work is part of a field exercise for a geologic field methods class that is ongoing at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. As part of this field exercise, we will be mapping sections of the Sur-Nacimiento Fault that crop out near the Whale Point trail along the northern extent of Highland Ridge on Friday afternoon and evening. On Saturday, we will map the faults along the ridge to the west of Boronada camp. Potential disturbances of this exercise include off-trail travel to investigate rock outcrops and to determine the location of contacts between rock types. In addition, I will use a rock hammer to break open rocks to get fresh surfaces for my students to observe. However, in order to save the rock outcrops for future investigations and classes, the students will not be allowed to use their own rock hammers.
