Re-sample the same reaches of Devils Creek and Big Creek. We will be conducting the same water/algae sampling and habitat measurements that were performed last year. Below is the description submitted during last years application process The primary objectives of this project are to produce statistical models and an algae IBI to help develop reference- and effects-based nutrient targets and to help develop biological criteria that reflect the effects of nutrients on streams. This will allow for the development of more appropriate nutrient reduction targets for TMDLs and development of nutrient water quality criteria. > > One of the products of the proposed work will be an Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI). In order to develop the IBI, we will collect field data of three types: periphyton (diatom taxonomic composition and algal biomass), water chemistry (including nutrients: NH4+, NO3, Total Dissolved N and P, PO4), and physical parameters in streams, across a range of site conditions and stream types. Landscape parameters reflecting anthropogenic disturbance within the catchments for each study site will also be measured. Uni- and multivariate statistical approaches will be used to identify relationships between aspects of the periphyton community and the chemical and physical parameters in order to develop and test metrics for inclusion in the IBI. As part of the IBI work, we will be establishing baseline parameters for the region, both in terms of algal communities, and nutrient profiles. As such, another product of this study will be a reference dataset for algae and nutrients in central
