Landels-Hill Big Creek Reserve

The Zavaleta lab is growing and, as of this fall, will include four graduate students, two postdocs, and one long-term undergraduate affiliate in addition to affiliated graduate students from other labs (~4) and close faculty collaborators on campus (2-3). With three new members this fall, a retreat at Big Creek is an opportunity to connect the lab members and plan for the coming year in a setting appropriate for a research ecology group. During our visit we will meet formally as a group once, and lab members will meet individually or in small groups with me to flesh out individual projects. The visit is also a chance for several lab members or affiliates to visit Big Creek for the first time and consider how it might play into future research and teaching plans. We will hike in small groups to see different parts of the reserve (interpretive loop, highlands camp trail, trail to Whale Point) and visit the beach area at the reserve informally.
