Sweeney Granite Mountains Desert Research Center

White fir is known from three ranges (Clark, Kingston and New York) in the eastern Mojave Desert of California. It has been reported in the Granite Mountains via field notes of Ken Norris, but no specimen, physiognomic or photographic data is known. I plan to survey the ridge, at an elevation of about 1800 m, extending easterly of Granite Mountain Peak and southerly of Cottonwood Spring. The purpose is to validate this reported range extension and to describe factors of climate, vegetation and geomorphology that may characterize the site. The survey will involve hiking up to the ridge from either Cottonwood Spring, or from Granite Cove.
