The U.S. Geological Survey - Western Ecological Research Center (USGS-WERC) is collaborating with the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW), California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), Idaho State University (ISU), University of California-Davis (UCD), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and U.S. Forest Service (USFS) to monitor sage-grouse populations across Nevada and California using a before-after-control-impact (BACI) study design. Our primary goals are to evaluate sage-grouse response to various infrastructure developments (e.g., transmission line construction), mineral extraction, renewable energy (e.g., geothermal), predator removal, wildfire, and habitat restoration (e.g., conifer removal, wetland restoration) by monitoring seasonal movements, estimating vital rates (e.g., individual, nest, and brood survival), and measuring changes in habitat selection and predator communities
