Sierra Nevada Aquatic Research Laboratory

The purpose is to facilitate and conduct research planning into the 24 member integrin protein family and the application of that research into potential human therapeutic interventions. Specifically, our group has been investigating RGD-binding integrins and the role of alpha-V integrins in binding to latent transforming growth factor beta (TGFb) and upon mechanical force, liberate TGFb where it mediates pleiotropic effects in an autocrine and paracrine manner. Our research focuses on better understanding how the inhibition of specific alpha-V integrin pairs impacts fibrogenesis, inflammation and disease processes. The purpose of this visit is to review recent research progress and plan future work.
