Freshman Seminar Course Description: Signs of Glaciers Past: Eastern Sierra and Tuolumne Since the time of their uplift, the Sierra Nevada mountains have been carved and re-carved by glaciers. We will spend a weekend studying the geological record of past ice ages along the eastern front of the Sierras and the Tuolumne Meadows area of Yosemite National Park. We will examine the massive glacial moraines of Convict Lake and hike to the top of 11,004 foot Gaylor Peak* to survey an array of glacial landforms. Each student will become an expert on a topic relevant to our trip and will help educate the class when we arrive at a field area that pertains to their expertise. (Note: The strenuous hike up Gaylor Peak necessitates that all participants be in very good physical condition.)
