We plan to get housing and use laboratory facilities at SNARL. Our proposed project aims to determine how three aspects of aquatic communities are structured by the combined impacts of different temperature and nutrient regimes: (1) phytoplankton community size structure (2) phytoplankton stoichiometry (C:N:P) (3) food-web structure (zooplankton and macro-invertebrate biomass and community composition) We propose to conduct a survey of lakes in throughout the Sierra Nevada along gradients of elevation (temperature) and nitrate content. We will collect algae, zooplankton, macro-invertebrates, and water chemistry samples from the study lakes. Samples will be brought back to the laboratory at SNARL to be processed and stored during our stay.
