Each day we will use cars to transport personal and robots to the parking lot just north of Horseshoe lake. We will carry our robots, computers, materials, canopies (2mx3m) for shade, generator, and tools to stable location at the lakes edge. The AUVs will be deployed by walking them into 0.4m depth of water, driving them manually to start locations, and then running autonomous missions in which the AUVs follow preset lawnmower paths that span the lakes planer area and involve depth dives of 1-3 meters. We plan to work lakeside the majority of the day, allowing us to run a large number of missions. We will inform any bystanders of our work as a means of teaching and ensuring safety around the robots. If the AUVs malfunction, we will retrieve them by swimming or rowboat if one is accessible. At the end of the day, all materials will be packed in our cars and removed from site. No garbage or other materials will be left behind. We have successfully used this approach in Costa Rica, Long Beach California, Avila Bay Califorina, Catalina Island California, Malta, Svarlabard Norway, and Denmark.
