The purpose of our visit is to lead a 4-day geological field trip to the Long Valley caldera and greater Mammoth Mountain region following the 2010 Geological Society of America Cordilleran Section Meeting to be held in Anaheim, CA May 27-29. The goals of the field trip are to present and describe key geological features of the Long Valley and Mammoth Mountain systems through a series of field stops and in-field discussions between the towns of Bishop and Lee Vining along highway 395 and various off shoots. The field trip will be led by Dr. Wes Hildreth, Dr. David Hill (US Geological Survey) and Dr. Brandon Browne (California State University, Fullerton). As many as 17 meeting yet to be determined participants (university undergraduate and graduate students, researchers, and federal and state-level scientists) will have the opportunity to register for this field trip through the GSA Cordilleran meeting website. Thus, a total of 20 people will be part of this trip. Because of SNARL's proximity to the planned field stops of this field trip and the affordable cost of lodging, it represents an ideal location for us as a "base camp". Fees for this trip will not be charged to my department account. Rather, participants will each pay a registration fee to the GSA Cordilleran Section, who will in turn pay for our stay at SNARL upon receiving invoice.
