I am requesting housing at SNARL for Dr. Richard W. Lucas. Dr. Lucas is a Postdoctoral Fellow on a grant from the National Institute for Climate Change Research (NICCR, US Dept. of Energy). I am a co-PI on this grant with colleagues from the University of Wyoming, UNLV, Texas Tech, and University of Arizona. (Please note that this is not the same grant from NICCR that supports Sharon Martinson and Holly Alpert; we have two NICCR grants.) Dr. Lucas will be sampling soils at our snowfence sites below Deadman Summit and near June Lake to facilitate comparisons of precipitation patterns, nutrient content, microbial biomass, soil respiration, and then comparing these with identical measurements at sites in the Mojave Desert (Nevada Test Site), Sonoran Desert (Santa Rita Experimental Range), and Chihuahuan Desert (Big Bend National Park.) Amy Concilio and Dr. Sharon Martinson will orient and facilitate Dr. Lucas' visit and sampling efforts.
