Starting in 1908, Joseph Grinnell, founder & first Director of the UCB Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, undertook to survey the vertebrate fauna (not fish) of California. One hundred years later, the same transects are being resurveyed to detect changes in the distribution of the vertebrate fauna. Several such transects are in the vicinity of SNARL.
